SearchChamp vs AthenaHQ

Choose AthenaHQ if you want a self-serve AI visibility tracker with unlimited seats, a free tier with limited credits to try it on, and coverage of Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI on its $295/mo Starter plan, or if procurement needs SSO and BI connectors on its Enterprise tier. Choose SearchChamp if you want SEO and AI visibility in one platform from $59/mo: citation tracking across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot is included on every plan, alongside keyword research, rank tracking, site audits with applied fixes and a brand-voice content writer. AthenaHQ tracks more engines and gives you nothing else; SearchChamp tracks fewer engines and gives you the rest of the job, at a fifth of the Starter price.

The verdict

Who should pick which.

Both tools are good at something. The difference is what you are buying: a data platform you operate, or a connected SEO and AI visibility platform that does the work.

Choose SearchChamp if

You want SEO and AI visibility in one place

  • You want the SEO work in the same subscription: keyword research, rank tracking, 80+ technical and AI-readiness checks with fixes applied through the WordPress plugin, a brand-voice writer and backlink monitoring, from $59/mo against AthenaHQ Starter at $295/mo.
  • You want a predictable prompt allowance instead of a credit meter: SearchChamp counts prompts per plan with your top prompts checked daily and the rest weekly, while AthenaHQ bills one credit per AI response and sells extra credits as an add-on.
  • You publish often: the Content Writer drafts and publishes to WordPress (10 articles a month on Starter, 40 on Pro, 100 on Agency), where AthenaHQ has no WordPress integration according to hands-on reviews.
  • You want to see which AI crawlers actually fetched your pages, verified by IP and network: SearchChamp includes crawler analytics, and AthenaHQ has none according to independent reviews.
  • You run client sites on a published plan: Agency at $349/mo covers 15 sites and 10 seats with white-label reporting, where AthenaHQ's agency offer is its custom Enterprise tier.
Choose AthenaHQ if

Its specialty is your whole job

  • You need Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Meta AI: AthenaHQ lists all five among the ten models on its paid plan. SearchChamp does not cover any of them as of August 2026.
  • You want to try before you pay without a card conversation: AthenaHQ's free Essential tier gives 300 credits across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot with unlimited members.
  • You have many users: AthenaHQ allows unlimited members on every plan, while SearchChamp seats are capped by plan.
  • Procurement needs SSO, audit logs or BI connectors: AthenaHQ Enterprise lists SAML/OIDC SSO, audit logs and Tableau, Power BI and Looker connectors, none of which SearchChamp claims.
  • You sell on Shopify and want revenue attribution: AthenaHQ connects Shopify and GA4 for attribution according to independent reviews, while SearchChamp connects Shopify and GA4 but does not claim revenue attribution.
Key takeaways

  2. AthenaHQ's free Essential tier is real product usage: $25 of credits (300 responses) across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. SearchChamp offers a 7-day trial with a card on file, not a free tier.
  3. AthenaHQ lists ten models on its $295/mo plan, including Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI. SearchChamp covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot on every plan and none of those five as of August 2026.

  6. AthenaHQ has no keyword research, rank tracking, site audit, backlink data or crawler analytics; SearchChamp includes all five alongside AI visibility.

AI-engine coverage: ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot, on every plan. Prices as of August 2026.

Only SearchChamp does this

What no traditional tool ships.

Multi-engine AI visibility, included

Citation tracking across the AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot) on every plan, included from $59 rather than sold as an add-on. Starter covers 30 tracked prompts, Pro 100, and Agency 250.

Verified AI-crawler analytics

See which AI crawlers (Googlebot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GeminiBot) actually fetch your pages, verified by IP and network rather than inferred from a user-agent string.

llms.txt generator

Auto-generate the structured llms.txt file AI answer engines read: 5 to 15 sections with short summaries, regenerated as your content changes.

AI fixes auto-applied via WordPress

The Site Auditor's schema, meta, and technical fixes apply directly through the free WordPress plugin instead of leaving you a report to fix by hand.

Multi-client at Agency

15 sites, 10 seats, and AI Visibility across the AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot) on every plan on every client, with no separate enterprise tier required.

7 specialist AI agents + Concierge

Keyword Research, Content Writer, Site Auditor, AI Visibility, Brand Voice, llms.txt, and Opportunities run as autonomous agents, coordinated by a Concierge orchestrator.

Deep dive

The questions SEOs actually ask about AthenaHQ.

Each section opens with the answer, then shows the reasoning and the numbers behind it.

Is AthenaHQ or SearchChamp better for AI visibility in 2026?

AthenaHQ is the better choice for a team that wants to track many AI engines with unlimited seats and is happy to buy nothing else; SearchChamp is the better choice for a team that wants SEO and AI visibility handled together in one subscription. AthenaHQ is the closest thing to SearchChamp's thesis on the tracker shelf: it pairs monitoring with an Action Center for on-page and off-page tasks, a content optimization agent and content recommendations, so it is not a dashboard-only product. What it does not have is the SEO platform underneath.

SearchChamp has that platform. AI visibility across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot is included on every plan, and the same workspace holds keyword research, rank tracking, site audits with fixes applied through the WordPress plugin, a brand-voice content writer, backlink monitoring, verified AI crawler analytics and an llms.txt generator. Seven specialist agents coordinated by a Concierge you can chat with turn the findings into drafts, applied fixes and a scored Opportunities board.

The price gap is the other half of the decision. AthenaHQ's paid plan is $295/mo as of August 2026 and its free tier is a limited credit grant, so the first dollar you spend is a large one; SearchChamp's first dollar is $59/mo for Starter, with Pro at $149/mo in between. AthenaHQ answers that with ten engines, unlimited members and a free on-ramp. Whether those are worth five times the entry price depends on whether Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Meta AI are where your buyers ask.

How do AthenaHQ and SearchChamp compare on engines, credits and refresh cadence?

AthenaHQ covers more engines than SearchChamp on its paid plan and the same number on its free one. As of August 2026 AthenaHQ's pricing page lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI on Starter, with additional models on request, and five of them (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot) on the free Essential tier. SearchChamp covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Microsoft Copilot on every plan and does not cover Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Meta AI as of August 2026.

The unit of account differs. AthenaHQ sells credits: one credit is one AI response, AthenaHQ Starter includes 3,600 a month, extra credits and API access are paid add-ons, and the pricing page does not state per-engine credit costs or how often a tracked prompt is re-run; independent reviewers report that some engines consume more credits per response and that Starter is limited to a single country, and we could not verify either on the vendor's pages. SearchChamp sells prompts: 30 on Starter, 100 on Pro and 250 on Agency, with your top prompts checked daily and the rest weekly; you choose the split, and multi-market tracking is on Pro and Agency.

Measurement is where SearchChamp states more. ChatGPT and Gemini are measured on the consumer plane, meaning what a user sees in the product, and the outputs are a citation rate per prompt, engine and market, regression alerts and answer-source analysis. AthenaHQ does not document on its site whether it reads engines through the consumer interface or an API. Neither point makes AthenaHQ's numbers wrong, and its source-level citation tracking and competitor insights are well regarded by its reviewers, but ask each vendor how a figure is produced before it goes into a report.

How much does AthenaHQ cost compared with SearchChamp?

AthenaHQ lists three tiers as of August 2026. AthenaHQ Essential is free and comes with $25 of credits (300 AI responses), five engines, unlimited members, prompt and response analysis, competitor insights, content recommendations and the Athena AI agent. AthenaHQ Starter is $295/mo billed monthly, with a 17% discount on annual billing, and includes 3,600 credits a month, ten models, integrations, CSV export, on-page and off-page actions and a content optimization agent, with API access and extra credits sold as add-ons. AthenaHQ Enterprise is custom and adds a Knowledge Base, Oracle discrepancy detection, the ACE citation engine, SSO, audit logs, multi-region and multi-language tracking, persona targeting, a Recommendation Engine and BI connectors.

SearchChamp has three plans: Starter at $59/mo, Pro at $149/mo and Agency at $349/mo, billed monthly or 20% less on annual billing ($47, $119 and $279 a month), all listed on the pricing page. Every plan includes AI visibility, keyword research, rank tracking, site audits, the content writer and backlink monitoring; sites and seats scale by tier (2 sites and 1 seat on Starter, 5 and 3 on Pro, 15 and 10 on Agency), and optional overage rates are published instead of forcing an upgrade.

The like-for-like comparison is AthenaHQ Starter at $295/mo against SearchChamp Pro at $149/mo or Agency at $349/mo. AthenaHQ gives ten models, unlimited members and a credit meter; SearchChamp Pro gives 100 prompts on Pro, 5 sites, 3 seats, API access and the full MCP toolset, and the SEO platform. Below that, AthenaHQ's free tier competes with SearchChamp's 13 free tools at /free-seo-tools and its 7-day trial rather than with a paid plan. Verify at athenahq.ai/pricing; AthenaHQ's Starter price has been stable across 2026 captures, but its credit rules are the part to read closely.

What does SearchChamp do that AthenaHQ does not, and the reverse?

The short answer is that both act on the data, and only SearchChamp covers the search side. AthenaHQ's Action Center turns findings into on-page and off-page tasks, its content optimization agent rewrites pages and drafts content, and its Enterprise tier adds a Recommendation Engine, a Knowledge Base and Oracle, which flags discrepancies between what AI engines say about a brand and what the brand says. Those are real execution features, and they are why AthenaHQ sits closer to SearchChamp than most trackers do.

What AthenaHQ does not do is the SEO job around it. It has no keyword research database, no Google rank tracker, no technical site audit, no backlink data and, according to independent reviews, no crawler analytics and no WordPress integration. SearchChamp's Site Auditor runs 80+ technical and AI-readiness checks and applies schema, meta and technical fixes through the free WordPress plugin; its Content Writer drafts, quality-gates and publishes to WordPress in your brand voice; its rank tracker puts Google positions and AI citation status side by side; and its crawler analytics verify GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and GeminiBot fetches by IP and ASN.

What SearchChamp does not do that AthenaHQ does: unlimited seats, Shopify and GA4 revenue attribution, SSO and audit logs, BI connectors, persona targeting and multi-language measurement on Enterprise, white-label exports on the self-serve plan according to reviewers, and coverage of Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI. SearchChamp connects Shopify, GA4 and Google Search Console, includes white-label and scheduled client reports on Agency, and offers multi-market tracking on Pro and Agency, but it does not claim revenue attribution, SSO or BI connectors.

  • A Content Writer trained on your brand voice (upload 5 to 10 published posts) that researches, drafts, quality-gates and publishes to WordPress: 10 articles a month on Starter, 40 on Pro and 100 on Agency.
  • A Site Auditor covering 2,000 pages a month on Starter, 25,000 on Pro and 100,000 on Agency, with fixes applied through the WordPress plugin and an llms.txt generator beside it.
  • Keyword research from a 5.4B keyword index, enriched with your Google Search Console queries and the questions AI engines already answer in your niche, with 100 tracked keywords on Starter, 1,000 on Pro and 3,000 on Agency.
  • Backlink monitoring for up to 10,000 backlinks per site, refreshed weekly, with lost-link recovery and four outreach lanes for earning links.
  • An Opportunities board that scores findings from every tool, and a Concierge agent with unlimited chat on every plan.

What can an AI visibility tracker like AthenaHQ not do?

An AI visibility tracker cannot do keyword research, run a technical site audit, track Google rankings or monitor backlinks, and AthenaHQ, even with its Action Center and content agent, does not claim to. It tells you whether your brand appears in AI answers, which pages get cited, what competitors are doing and what to change on the page; the crawl, the keyword data and the link work live in a separate suite, and that suite is a second subscription.

The second subscription is a data seam as much as a cost. A citation gap in AthenaHQ has to be re-keyed into the SEO tool's brief, and an audit finding in the SEO tool never sees the AI data. SearchChamp's design bet is that these belong together: the AI Visibility agent, Research Studio, the Content Writer, the Site Auditor and the Opportunities board share one data spine, so the gap becomes the brief, the brief becomes the draft, and the draft ships with its schema.

There are things neither does. SearchChamp does not cover Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Meta AI, offers no SSO, BI connectors or revenue attribution, and does not claim SOC 2. AthenaHQ publishes no refresh cadence and no per-engine credit costs, has no crawler analytics or WordPress integration according to reviewers, and reserves ACE, Oracle, personas and BI connectors for Enterprise. Choose on the engines your buyers use and the work you need done.

Which is better for agencies, AthenaHQ or SearchChamp?

For most agencies SearchChamp is the more economical choice, because its agency tier is published and includes the client-facing pieces. As of August 2026, Agency at $349/mo covers 15 client sites and 10 seats with white-label and scheduled client reports, multi-client workspaces, API access and the full MCP toolset, and AI visibility on every client site. AthenaHQ's pricing page places enterprises and agencies together on its custom tier, so an agency budgets through sales, although reviewers do mention white-label exports on the self-serve plan.

AthenaHQ is the stronger fit for an agency whose clients want many engines covered, whose team is large (unlimited members on every AthenaHQ plan), or whose procurement wants SSO and BI connectors. An agency that already runs SEO delivery elsewhere can put AthenaHQ beside it as the AI layer; an agency that wants rankings, content, fixes and citations in one client report will find SearchChamp the shorter path.

How hard is it to switch from AthenaHQ to SearchChamp?

Switching takes an afternoon once you have your prompt list. AthenaHQ Starter includes CSV export, so export the prompts, engines and citation history you track, add the prompts to a SearchChamp workspace, connect Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4, and let the first crawl and AI visibility run populate the dashboards. The 7-day trial (card required) is long enough to compare citation rates on the same prompts, and AthenaHQ's monthly billing means no annual term to wait out unless you took the discount.

What does not transfer is history for the engines SearchChamp does not cover (Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Meta AI), AthenaHQ's Action Center task history and any Shopify attribution you built on it, so keep the export. SearchChamp builds its own baseline from the first run, so plan an overlap month; on AthenaHQ Starter that costs $295 as of August 2026, or nothing if you drop to the free Essential tier for the overlap.

Bottom line

AthenaHQ is the right tool if you want many engines, unlimited seats and an action layer without the SEO platform, and you can justify $295/mo for tracking alone or stay on its free tier with limited credits. SearchChamp is the right platform if you want SEO and AI visibility in one connected system that does the work, from $59/mo with citation tracking included on every plan. The engines decide it: if Perplexity, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek or Meta AI matter to your buyers, AthenaHQ covers them and SearchChamp does not; if Google's AI surfaces, ChatGPT and Copilot are enough, SearchChamp does more for less. Prices verified August 2026; check athenahq.ai/pricing for current rates.

The honest take

Where AthenaHQ wins, and where SearchChamp does.

Every comparison on this site names the cases where the other tool is the better choice. This one is no different.

When to choose AthenaHQ

Its strengths are real

  • Unlimited seats matter to you

AthenaHQ includes unlimited seats on every plan. SearchChamp's plans are seat-capped (1/1/3/10) at flat pricing. An agency with a dozen client-facing users pays AthenaHQ nothing extra for seats and pays us seat friction — a real, honest advantage on their side.

  • SOC 2 or SSO/SCIM is a procurement gate

AthenaHQ holds SOC 2 Type I (Type II in observation) and ships SAML/OIDC, Okta/Ping and SCIM. SearchChamp has neither today. If your security review blocks on either, that is a short conversation and AthenaHQ passes it.

  • You need BI-connector embeds today

Looker Studio, Power BI/Fabric, Tableau and embeddable JWT-secured dashboards are live on AthenaHQ. SearchChamp has no BI/warehouse export beyond a 3-dataset CSV on the Agency plan.

  • You want a denser default cadence without configuring anything

AthenaHQ's Monday/Wednesday/Friday default beats SearchChamp's weekly base at a comparable price point. SearchChamp sweeps the AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot) weekly.

  • You need Enterprise-tier multi-language or 90+ country coverage now

AthenaHQ supports 90+ countries and multi-language measurement on its Enterprise tier. SearchChamp's Spanish and Arabic prompt support exists in the product but is not yet enabled.

When to choose SearchChamp

The gaps that matter most

  • Their price cliff is exactly where our plans sit

AthenaHQ's free tier is a one-time 300 credits, then a $295/mo jump to Starter — a gap reviewers specifically call out. SearchChamp's Starter ($59) and Pro ($149) plans sit inside that cliff, with 13 free tools (no signup) ahead of any trial and a 7-day free trial (credit card required) instead of a one-time credit grant.

  • A full SEO platform, not AI-visibility measurement alone

AthenaHQ has no rank tracking, site audits, backlink analysis, keyword research or internal linking at any price. SearchChamp runs all of it — plus a Chrome extension and WordPress plugin — in the same workspace as AI visibility, so citation gaps and ranking data inform the same content decisions.

  • A citation score with a published methodology, at a reachable tier

AthenaHQ's ACE score is self-validated (their own n=1,761, r=0.90 study, no external replication) and gated to Enterprise. SearchChamp's Citation-Readiness Score composes a deterministic, research-grounded structural check with a quality-judge GEO axis, published on our methodology page, at the Pro tier.

  • We decline to count an engine we cannot faithfully measure

AthenaHQ counts 9 engines, including DeepSeek. SearchChamp counts 8 and deliberately excludes DeepSeek: no faithful consumer-plane scraper exists for it and we do not send agency-client site content to a China-hosted API. A vendor counting an engine it cannot ground citations against is counting a number, not a measurement.

  • Outreach that actually sends, not just tracks

SearchChamp's outreach lanes send from the user's own mailbox, ingest replies and track sentiment. AthenaHQ's content modes find and manage pitch targets, with no published evidence the platform sends on your behalf.

  • Deeper, verified crawler-access forensics

SearchChamp's AI-crawler access check runs a weekly access score, a live WAF probe, and cross-references a 21-row bot registry across 12 vendors with rDNS/ASN verification. AthenaHQ publishes an 8-model access checker without the same verification depth.

Switching

How to switch from AthenaHQ.

Run both for the length of the trial, then keep the one that fits your workflow. Nothing here is irreversible.

  1. Export your tracked prompt list

Pull the prompts and engines you track in AthenaHQ before switching. There is no published self-serve export for prompt lists; request one from their support if needed.

  2. Recreate the prompt set and choose engines

Add the prompts in SearchChamp's AI Visibility settings and pick your engines — the AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Google AI Mode, and Microsoft Copilot) are available on every plan.

  3. Connect Search Console, GA4 and run a site audit

This is the part AthenaHQ has no equivalent for. Connecting Search Console and GA4 puts AI visibility next to impressions, clicks and conversions, and the first site audit surfaces the technical work that affects whether you get cited at all.

  4. Turn the first citation gap into published work

Train Brand Voice on 5-10 existing posts, then take one prompt where a competitor is cited and you are not and run it through the Content Writer. Publishing and applying fixes through the WordPress plugin closes a loop AthenaHQ leaves to your own team.

FAQ

SearchChamp vs AthenaHQ: common questions.

Hover or click a question for the answer
01

AthenaHQ's free tier is one-time — 300 credits (about $25 of usage), 5 engines, then no more free runs. AthenaHQ's entry paid plan, Starter, is $295/mo for 3,600 credits (roughly 100 prompts across 9 engines, weekly). Above that, pricing is Enterprise and sales-led. SearchChamp's entry paid plan is $59/mo; ahead of that we offer 13 free tools with no signup, plus a 7-day free trial (credit card required) of the full platform.

02

By count, yes — 9 versus our 8. The 9th is DeepSeek, which we exclude on purpose: no faithful consumer-plane scraper exists for it, and we do not send agency-client site content to a China-hosted API. That is a trust posture, not an oversight — see our methodology page for the full reasoning.

03

They measure different things and neither claims to predict citation with certainty. AthenaHQ's ACE is a 0-1 self-validated correlational score (their own study, n=1,761, r=0.90, no external replication) and it's gated to their Enterprise tier. SearchChamp's Citation-Readiness Score is a 0-100 structural score — deterministic checks grounded in published GEO research plus a quality-judge axis — with the methodology published, available at the Pro tier. We call it "readiness," not a probability, on purpose.

04

No. AthenaHQ includes unlimited seats on every plan — a real advantage for agencies with many client-facing users. SearchChamp's plans are seat-capped (1 on Starter, 1 on Pro's base, 3 and 10 on higher tiers) at flat pricing. If unlimited seats matter more to you than price, that is a legitimate reason to choose them.

05

Not today. AthenaHQ holds SOC 2 Type I (Type II in observation) and ships SAML/OIDC, Okta/Ping and SCIM. SearchChamp has neither certified nor built. If your procurement process requires either, that is a real reason to choose AthenaHQ over us right now.

06

No. AthenaHQ is AI-visibility measurement and the action layer around it; it has no rank tracking, site audits, backlink analysis, keyword research or internal linking at any price. SearchChamp runs the full SEO stack alongside AI visibility in one workspace — that is the category-level difference between the two products.

07

A Y Combinator W25 company founded in 2025, based in San Francisco with about 12 people, having raised $2.7M total ($500K from YC plus a $2.2M seed round in June 2025). They hold a 4.9/5 rating across 34 G2 reviews and were named a G2 High Performer for Spring 2026.

08

Because this page is about a specific, named, funded company, and the alternative to citing a source is inventing one. Every row here points at where the claim comes from — their own site or independent reviews — and the build fails if any row on this page is missing its source. We would rather over-cite a competitor comparison than publish a confident sentence nobody can check.

09

For a first look, yes. As of August 2026 Essential is free, comes with $25 of credits (300 AI responses) across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, allows unlimited members and includes prompt and response analysis, competitor insights and content recommendations. It is a limited credit grant rather than a timed trial, so a small prompt set lasts longer than a large one.

10

One credit is one AI response. AthenaHQ Starter includes 3,600 credits a month for $295/mo, extra credits and API access are paid add-ons, and the pricing page does not state per-engine credit costs or the refresh cadence, so how many prompts 3,600 credits cover depends on how many engines you track and how often each prompt runs. SearchChamp counts prompts per plan instead, with the daily and weekly split under your control.

11

Yes. Gemini is among the five engines on AthenaHQ's free Essential tier, and Google AI Mode is on the ten-model list of its $295/mo Starter plan as of August 2026. SearchChamp includes both, along with ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot, on every plan, with citation rates reported per prompt, engine and market.

AthenaHQ, if revenue attribution is the goal: independent reviews describe Shopify and GA4 attribution that ties AI visibility to sales.
