The problem
“Why are they out-ranking us?” is a debate, not a decision.
Domain metrics tell you how big a rival is — rating, estimated traffic, backlink counts. None of them tell you what to change on the page that’s losing. So the meeting ends where it started: a chart, a hunch, and no edit anyone can make.
- Domain-level numbers describe the competitor, not your gap
- “They’re bigger” is an observation, not a plan
- The useful question is page-level: what do they cover that you don’t?
Every metric answers “how big are they?” — none of them answer the question that ships an edit
Track rivals side by side
Every rival in one table, refreshed on demand.
Track competitor domains and compare their SEO and AI visibility side by side — keyword overlap, estimated traffic, top keywords, AI mention rate. Target any of 94 country and region markets, refreshed on a 6-hour freshness window.
- One row per rival: overlap, traffic, top keywords, AI mention rate
- Re-target any competitor to any of 94 markets
- Statuses that say what happened, from

Competition Level
A score for how similar they are — not how big.
Competition Level reads a rival’s business — same customers, same products, same market — and scores how directly it competes with yours, 0 to 100. It is not keyword overlap and it is not size: a 2,273-visit giant can score 15 while a 364-visit agency scores 82. The reasoning is written out on every competitor.
- Based on their business, not just shared keywords
- A written rationale attached to every score
- Direct rivals surface even with zero overlap today
AI mention rate
Which rivals the AI answer engines cite — and which they don’t.
AI mention rate is a pooled share-of-voice read from the AI Visibility data you already have, so it costs no extra credits. And it’s honest about silence: a measured zero renders as Not cited with the reason spelled out — never a bare 0%.
- Pooled from your tracked AI Visibility prompts — no extra credits
Not citedis a measured state, not a missing value- Never run AI Visibility? The column header says exactly what to do
If AI Visibility has never run, the column header becomes:
A pooled share-of-voice read — from data you already have, at no extra credit cost
Every zero explains itself
A number you can’t interpret is worse than no number.
Every zero, dash and status pill carries its reason. A 0 overlap names the locale and why it can’t be measured. Low authority describes a small domain — it isn’t a failure. And when there’s no local index data, the table says it switched to global. It never swaps silently.
- A
0overlap names the locale and the reason Low authorityis an honest read, not an error to retry- A failed refresh says so — and retries on the next cycle
States, not error codes — and never a bare zero
Take their keyword list
Open a rival. Take their keywords.
Click any tracked competitor and the drilldown opens: four tiles, the written rationale, and their ranked keywords with search volume. Tick the rows you want and push them into your own keyword list in one move.

Add to Keywords Listwith select-all - An honest empty state when a small domain has no ranked keywords
“Both are software development agencies serving the same buyer set… — score reflects business similarity, not shared keywords.”
See every keyword a competitor ranks for on the Pro and Agency plans. The ‘Top by volume’ tab is available on your current plan.
Their ranked keywords become your keyword list — per row, or in bulk
Point at a URL
Point it at the page that’s losing.
Pick one of your URLs — typed, or straight from your Search-Console-indexed pages — choose a market down to the city, and add an industry hint if the topic is ambiguous. Pin the comparison to up to 3 exact competitor pages, or let it run against whoever actually ranks — an unpinned run reads your page plus up to four ranking competitors.

The pipeline
Six stages you can watch. Failures in plain English.
Every run reports exactly where it is, from Queued to Complete. When something breaks, the message says what happened and what to try next — never a raw error code — and if your credit came back, it says that too.
- Live progress with real percentages
- Specific failure copy, with a fix suggested
- A failed run’s credit is returned automatically
Queued → Crawling → Rankings → Analysis → Report → Complete
Two scores, opposite directions
Page Quality asks how good. Opportunity asks how much is left.
The two are supposed to disagree: a strong page naturally scores low opportunity. The Opportunity formula is public — coverage gap, capped search volume, intent match — and Page Quality can’t read 100 while its own report still lists gaps.
- Different bands on purpose: a verdict (
Good) vs an upside (Low opportunity) - The formula is public, so a 20 is explainable
- Partial reads say so:
Limited crawl, floored or suppressed scores
The Opportunity formula — public
→ clamped 0–100
Quality can’t reach 100 while the report lists gaps — every flagged gap docks it.
No relevant competitors in the run? The Opportunity score is suppressed, not faked.
A strong page scores low opportunity — that’s the point
The Topic Coverage Matrix
The whole comparison in one grid.
Your page against the pages actually ranking, topic by topic — Strong, Moderate, Weak, Missing. A fifth state does the honest work: a page that couldn’t be read is marked Couldn’t read, and it is never counted as missing.
- Your column highlighted against every ranking rival
- Five cell states — including the honest one
- Built fresh per run from live results
A “couldn’t read” is never counted as “missing”
The gap, attributed
Every gap names the competitor it came from.
Missing topics, thin sections, missing questions, structural recommendations — every row carries attribution chips and a written rationale, and the whole list filters by competitor. When a block finds nothing, it says None identified. — a result, not a blank.
- Filter by competitor, or
Unattributed only - A written reason on every row, not a bare bullet
- Honest states:
All competitors,Unattributed,None identified.
“IBM explicitly lists cloud-native development as a modern methodology, while Atlio only mentions cloud migration without framing it as a core architectural approach.”
“Daffodilsw.com outlines Fixed Cost and ODC engagement models — critical for buyers comparing vendors — which Atlio only vaguely references as ‘engagement models’ without details.”
“…Atlio’s CI/CD practices are buried under Scrum and lack standalone visibility.”
“…helping buyers self-identify; Atlio’s generic ‘sector’ mention misses conversion opportunities.”
Attribution is never guessed — the honest states are “All competitors” and “Unattributed”
Real demand, or inferred
Real — Google or Inferred — AI. Stamped on every question.
Every missing question carries its provenance, so you know whether people actually search it or the model proposed it. And when demand data is absent, the run note says which thing happened — “we found none” is never confused with “we didn’t look.”
Real — Google: confirmed live search demandInferred — AI: proposed by the model, and labelled that way- Two distinct run-level notes when demand data is missing
“Found none” never masquerades as “didn’t look”
Guards after the model
The model proposes. Deterministic code disposes.
After the model writes the report, plain code re-reads it and deletes what it can’t support. A “missing” topic that matches a heading your page already has is dropped, never repaired. A rationale that praises your page instead of naming a gap is dropped as inverted. Removed — not rewritten.
- Polarity guard: “missing” is checked against your real headings first
- Inverted rationales — “no competitor offers…” — are deleted
- Unread content is never reported as missing or thin
Dropped, never rewritten
Guards before the fetch
We check what we fetch before we fetch it.
Pointing a tool at any URL you name is how analysers get turned into a way to reach things they shouldn’t. So the guard runs on the way in as well as the way out: addresses are validated before a request is made, the competitor page that comes back is treated as untrusted input rather than instructions, and processing is bound to the requesting workspace.
- Every target URL is validated before we fetch it — localhost, private, link-local and internal-infrastructure addresses are blocked
- Competitor page content is treated as untrusted and delimited, and the model is constrained to extract only from the headings we actually fetched
- Workers use workspace-bound access checks behind a one-flip kill switch
Beat this page
One button from report to draft.
At the bottom of every completed report sits Beat this page. It turns that exact report into a brief — the missing topics, unanswered questions and thin sections carried straight into the outline — and lands you on a draft in your brand voice. Run it twice and it re-opens the brief you already have. Publishing stays yours.
